McKinsey: 32% of Companies Skipped Buying Software Because Agentic Coding Tools Could Build It

McKinsey's State of AI 2026 global survey, fielded May 4 through June 8, 2026 across 1,719 participants in 97 countries, found that 32% of organizations have decided against buying at least one software product or feature because it could be built internally with agentic coding tools. Large organizations (revenue over $1 billion) scaling AI agents across one or more functions rose to 40%, up from 27% the prior year, while smaller organizations remained flat at 22%. Eight in ten respondents said AI improved their own productivity, but the share reporting AI has contributed to their organization's EBIT was essentially unchanged year-over-year, at 37%.

Google Patches Actively Exploited Chrome Zero-Day, CISA Sets September 18 Deadline

Google shipped Chrome 152.0.7977.82/.83 on September 4, 2026 to patch CVE-2026-85046, a high-severity (CVSS 8.8) type confusion flaw in Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine that allows a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code inside Chrome's sandboxed renderer via a crafted HTML page. Google confirmed an exploit for the vulnerability exists in the wild — the sixth actively exploited Chrome zero-day patched in 2026. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency added the flaw to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on September 4, setting a September 18, 2026 remediation deadline for federal civilian agencies. Chromium-based browsers including Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi inherit the same flaw and require the identical 152.0.7977.82 build to be patched. The bug was responsibly disclosed by researcher Salvatore Gulizia on August 4, 2026, earning a $1,000 bounty.

Altman Apologizes for 'Messy' GPT-6 Astra Rollout as Paying Subscribers Wait for Access

Hours after OpenAI unveiled GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026, CEO Sam Altman apologized for what he called a 'messy rollout' after the staged launch left most paying subscribers without access. Astra initially went only to enterprise customers on OpenAI's Daybreak cybersecurity platform, while ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers, along with API developers on Azure and AWS Bedrock, were told access would follow over subsequent days — a sequencing that frustrated Pro subscribers accustomed to early access at launch. OpenAI offered affected subscribers one banked usage reset for each day they went without access. By 6:30 p.m. Eastern on September 4, GPT-6 Astra was available on ChatGPT for all paying users on eligible plans.

Sandia and Quantinuum's Helios Hits 99.9975% Single-Qubit Fidelity in Peer-Reviewed Results

Sandia National Laboratories highlighted on August 27, 2026 the peer-reviewed results of its four-year collaboration with Quantinuum, published in Nature, benchmarking the performance of Quantinuum's 98-qubit commercial trapped-ion system, Helios. The system achieved single-qubit gate fidelity of 99.9975% and two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921%, alongside a State Preparation and Measurement fidelity of 99.967% — described in the paper as the company's largest and most reliable quantum computer to date. Sandia, operating under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement renewed in May 2026, contributed new benchmarking methodologies for mid-circuit measurements, a capability critical to structural quantum error correction and the Department of Energy's goal of fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Boomi Launches Agent Control Plane to Close the Enterprise AI Governance Gap

Boomi announced its Agent Control Plane on September 2, 2026, a vendor- and model-neutral infrastructure layer designed to securely connect AI agents to core business systems, govern their actions, control runaway AI costs, and maintain full data lineage. The platform runs flexibly across public cloud, a customer's own VPC, or on-premises, directly supporting data sovereignty requirements. Boomi cited Gartner's prediction that 40% of enterprises will demote or decommission autonomous AI agents by 2027 due to governance gaps discovered only after production incidents, and a Forrester Consulting study finding 86% of leaders say their organizations have moved past AI agent pilots while only 34% trust the actions those agents take.

McKesson Confirms Breach After ShinyHunters Claims Theft of 284 Million Patient Records

Healthcare giant McKesson confirmed a cybersecurity incident after the ShinyHunters extortion group claimed it stole 284 million records containing patient data. McKesson discovered the incident on August 25, 2026, with its investigation still in early stages. ShinyHunters told BleepingComputer that vishing attacks compromised multiple employees' Okta single sign-on accounts, which were then used to access McKesson's Salesforce and Snowflake environments, exfiltrating roughly 1TB of data over four days between August 21 and August 25. The group demanded a $55.2 million ransom with a 72-hour deadline. Important nuance: the 284 million figure refers to rows of raw data, not unique patients — ShinyHunters itself has clarified the records are linked to tens of millions of patients, with the exact number of affected individuals not yet confirmed.

Global Chip Sales Hit $146.8 Billion in July as AI Demand Keeps Accelerating

The Semiconductor Industry Association announced on September 4, 2026 that global semiconductor sales reached $146.8 billion in July 2026, up 135.1% year-over-year and 6.4% month-over-month, extending a run of extraordinary growth driven largely by AI chip and compute infrastructure demand. The print follows TSMC's own July revenue report of roughly $14.5 billion, up 44.7% year-over-year, underscoring that AI-driven demand is flowing through the entire chipmaking supply chain rather than being concentrated in a single company's results.

Sezzle Beats Estimates and Raises Guidance, Yet Stock Tumbles Sharply

Sezzle reported second-quarter 2026 results on August 6, 2026, with revenue up 51.7% year-over-year to $149.7 million, beating consensus estimates, and EPS of $1.13, above the $1.05 expected. Net income rose 47.7% year-over-year to $40.8 million, active subscribers grew 76.4% to 854,000, and Gross Merchandise Volume reached $1.3 billion, up 37.9%. Sezzle also raised full-year 2026 guidance, targeting 35% revenue growth, adjusted net income of $185 million (up from $180 million), and adjusted EPS of $5.25 (up from $5.10). Despite the beat-and-raise quarter, shares fell sharply in after-hours trading — reported declines ranged from roughly 22% to over 28% depending on the source — reflecting investor concern about moderating growth expectations for the second half of the year.
